Businesses Cut Costs by
Renegotiation By
Raymund Flandez
Small companies are finding that almost everything is
renegotiable these days.
The economic downturn is prompting business owners -- by
necessity or by opportunity -- to re-examine contracts with suppliers,
vendors or landlords and come up with creative deals. And in many
cases, they are saving a substantial sum of money.
"Most of us grew up knowing that once you agree to
something, you don't back out of it," says small-business
consultant Bill Bartmann of Bill Bartmann Enterprises in Tulsa, Okla.
"That rule doesn't apply anymore."
In a survey released in September of more than 1,000
small-business owners and managers, about 15% had recently renegotiated
long-term fixed-cost supply contracts, according to the Small Business
Research Board, a Buffalo Grove, Ill., publisher of the Small Business
Confidence Index, which tracks overall business confidence and issues
of small-business owners and managers.

MICR Check Printing
Printing
checks to blank stock, also known as MICR printing, makes it easy for
you to manage multiple checkbooks while reducing costs and improving
security. Instead of ordering and juggling and storing checks imprinted
with all your bank account information, MICR printing allows you to use
secure, blank stock. Using blank stock makes printing from multiple
checkbooks a snap.
If you are
using Microsoft Dynamics GP, Mekorma MICR is the check printing tool
for you. Mekorma MICR is the most widely used check printing software
for Microsoft Dynamics GP. Mekorma MICR not only gives you all the
benefits of printing to blank stock but is tightly integrated into
standard Microsoft Dynamics GP check printing processes. There is
nothing new for your check printing personnel to learn.
In addition,
Mekorma MICR adds:
- password
security
- amount
based signature printing
- easy
configuration for unlimited number of check books
- extensibility
to add special sorts, additional information or special payment
selection criteria
Mekorma MICR
uses standard office LaserJet printers to create your checks. No
special hardware is required.

Hotfix for Auto Growth issue in SQL
Two of our
customers have been affected by this problem in SQL. For no
apparent reason, the auto growth setting in the SQL database changes
from a normal value, like 20%, to an astronomical value like 12800%.
The result of this change can cause the database to grow from 4 gigabytes
to 400 gigabytes overnight.
See Articles 919611 and 917887 for more information
on the possible cause and fix for this issue.

Meet Sherwood Systems:
Ed Bonaski, Director of Sales
Ed joined Sherwood Systems in 2005 as our Director of
Sales for Microsoft Dynamics GP. We are very proud of Ed's recent award
from Microsoft: 1st Place in ERP Customer Additions in Western
Region! In addition to staying busy with GP, he is also leading
our aggressive effort to expand our CRM practice.
Ed's approach to sales is to validate that Microsoft
Dynamics GP is the right solution for the client from their
business perspective. The technical stuff is somewhat
secondary to the client's core questions: Will my business needs be
solved quickly? Will it grow with my business? Is it easy to use? How
well does it integrate to my other applications? and Is it cost
effective?
Ed holds a liberal arts degree from the University of
South Florida and worked in the book publishing industry for 20 years
in an operations management role. Ed branched out in 2002 to work
on the ERP sales side of the business, joining an international
software provider that offered the additional benefit of extensive
European travel.
Ed grew up in northern New Jersey and lived in New York City until his
move to Phoenix. He lives in Phoenix's central corridor and enjoys
exploring all of the unique neighborhoods Phoenix has to offer. He also
is an avid photographer and can be found most weekends traveling the
back roads of Arizona.
